Yeast Nutrient (Diammonium Phosphate / DAP) provides a source of nitrogen that helps support healthy yeast growth during fermentation. It is commonly used in home winemaking, mead making, and cider fermentation to help yeast ferment more efficiently.

Adding yeast nutrient can help prevent sluggish or stuck fermentations and may reduce the risk of hydrogen sulfide (rotten egg) aromas caused by nutrient deficiencies.

Recommended Usage:

  • Use approximately 0.5 – 0.75 grams per gallon (about 1/2 tsp per 5 gallons).
  • A rough estimate is 1 teaspoon ≈ 3.1 grams, though weighing the product is recommended for accurate dosing.
  • Some winemakers add yeast nutrient to every fermentation, typically 1/2 to 3/4 gram per gallon.

Diammonium phosphate is especially useful for fermentations that lack natural nutrients, such as white wines, fruit wines, and mead.
